Elizabeth "Beth" Ainsworth is born
Beth and Sir Edmund Ainsworth visit the Elgin Marbles in a private exhibition at the British Museum.

Beth sneaks away to visit the Museum again and is frightened by the huge thunderstorm that erupts.

An unidentified man, who later becomes Lord Reginald Ravenscroft is found in the park opposite the museum.
The Raven begins his reign of terror in London
Beth and Sir Edmund Ainsworth return to London because of his ill health.

Beth is attacked by Lord Ravenscroft and by protecting herself knocks him unconscious. She flees on a ship to Cape Town, thinking she has killed him.

Beth arrives at the Cape and becomes Lady Lucy Simpson and moves into Bellemonte.
​
A mysterious man is found in the woods at Bellemonte. He is suffering from amnesia. He agrees to pretend he is Sir Alexander James Simpson, Lucy's husband.

He regains his memory and discovers he is Dr. Matthew Hawke, a reknowned scientist from the year 2045, who has invented time travel so that he can warn his deceased wife against actions that will cause her death in the future.
​
The Masked Crusaders are formed, fighting oppression and injustice.
​
The Masked Crusaders free 20 slaves in a daring escape from the Castle of Good Hope.
​
Lord Reginald Ravenscroft, the Raven, makes an appearance. He has since discovered that he is Dr. Richard Thorpe, Matthew's partner from the year 2045.
Emma Colton is born to wealthy parents in New York City
